Orlando ... ASIGĀ®, an industry leader in aviation services, announced today that its Denver International Airport (DEN) Fuel Facility Operation has achieved Gold Leader status under the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Environmental Leadership Program. It is a three tiered program with Gold being the highest level. For an organization to achieve Gold they must demonstrate continual environmental improvement with goals that are measureable and beyond mere compliance; work towards sustainability; have a fully functional Environmental Management System and a clean compliance record three years prior to applying to the program. Last year ASIG was recognized as a Bronze Achiever.
Since the facility opened in 1994, ASIG has managed the DEN Fuel System on behalf of the airport's airline consortium, which today consists of 20 member airlines. The facility has the world's largest airport fuel hydrant system with 27 miles of underground pipeline that delivers jet fuel from the airport's six storage tanks to the various concourses. The system handles over a million gallons of jet fuel daily. When the airport completes its solar project in December, the facility will be the first fuel system in the world to be powered by solar energy.
ASIG has maintained ISO 9001 certification since 2001 and has also adopted many principles of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. ASIG's past environmental achievements at the facility include reduced energy usage of 45% and a reduction of wastewater by 22%. DEN's future goals include further reductions in energy usage and wastewater as well as vehicle fuel usage improvements and a reduction in waste jet fuel.
Commenting on this achievement, Keith P. Ryan, President, said "We are very proud that our DEN team has been formally recognized by the State of Colorado in this way. As a company we are wholly committed to environmental stewardship and over the years our DEN team has consistently demonstrated environmental excellence by incorporating progressive measurable goals for minimizing their impact on the environment."
